Penfield & Smith provided a creative design solution to a decades-old problem at a confusing five way intersection commonly know as "Five Points". The solution was the first modern roundabout built in the City of Santa Barbara. The roundabout project provided a cost effective design solution to a complex intersection involving five STOP controlled approaches that experienced significant queuing delays. Penfield & Smith proposed the initial concept, assisted with Caltrans permitting and provided preliminary and final design services for the roundabout. The project was constructed in 1996.
